A short ceremony of remembrance and salute at the Duquesa Santa Ana monument to the Armada fallen took place yesterday afternoon in Killybegs.

Among those present was the Spanish Ambassador to Ireland Ildefonso Castro and crew from the Spanish Navy Vessel ESPS CENTINELA

Their visit coincided with a number of events taking place in North Sligo by Spanish Armada Ireland this weekend to commemorate the loss of three other Spanish Armada galleons in 1588 at Streedagh beach.

Eddie O’Gorman and Dr Prannie Rhatigan from the Spanish Armada Ireland group in Grange, Co Sligo were also welcomed to Killybegs by Cllr Niamh Kennedy, Leas Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council and Mayor Anne Marie Bourke.

Award winning chef Denis Byrne from Kilcar and Tim Dewhirst from LYIT Killybegs were on hand to serve invited guests to some Spanish food and tapas.

There followed a visit on board the ESPS  CENTINELA
